Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has explained his decision to substitute Kai Havertz and Timo Werner against Porto.
Despite the positive result, Tuchel was not too pleased with the displays of summer signings Havertz and Werner, and felt he needed to make some changes in that area of the field.
He told the club's website post-game: "I wanted to give the sign that I accepted it was a bit of a tough match for Timo and Kai today.
The Blues managed to claim a 2-0 away success in the Champions League quarter final first leg against the Portuguese opposition.
This is the mentality in general that I like about the club and about the team, and that we want to implement."
"We wanted to give the sign that we keep on going.
They had not their best days and the connection between the deep seven players that we needed for the build-up and the front three was a bit lost.
