Chelsea’s Levi Colwill was the subject of plenty of transfer speculation in the last summer transfer window.

Colwill impressed hugely on loan at Brighton last season, making 24 appearances across all competition and  attracting attention of numerous clubs as a result.

The 21-year-old helped the England U-21’s to achieve victory at the European Championships, further increasing his profile.

Colwill is an attractive prospect due to his ability, age, and his left-footedness – something Jurgen Klopp would have likely wanted ahead of this season.

He is able to play as a centre-back as well as a left-back, further demonstrating his versatility.

With how important playing out of the back has become in the modern game, a left-footed centre half helps enormously with the balance of a team and opens up passing angles that would not be possible with two right-footed defenders.

This season, Colwill has been integrated into Chelsea’s starting lineup, cementing his place as a key figure in their defensive unit.

His robust performances at center-back have displayed not just his defensive solidity but also his ability to contribute to the team’s offensive plays with his excellent ball distribution and calmness under pressure.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, the 21-year-old has made 32 appearances in all competitions, with 23 of those appearances coming in the Premier League.

Chelsea ‘bracing’ for interest in Levi Colwill this summer

The Blues are reportedly aware that Levi Colwill will be a hot topic for clubs looking for a defender in the summer and are said to be ‘braced’ for interest.

This is according to GIVEMESPORT, who report that PSG and Liverpool are amongst those most keen on the defenders signature.

It’s no secret that the Reds need defensive reinforcements in the summer.

Joel Matip looks set to depart this summer on a free transfer with his contract expiring in June.

Virgil van Dijk is not getting older at 32, while Ibrahima Konate’s injury record leaves a lot to be desired.

Liverpool is reportedly considering a move to sign the defender in the upcoming summer as they prepare for their return to the Champions League next season.

But the report says that it will be difficult to convince Chelsea to let Colwill go, despite the Blues needing to balance their books after their spending in the past two transfer windows.

Therefore, Chelsea may be inclined to sell players to help them balance the books.

With the heat that Everton, Nottingham Forest, and Everton have gotten this season, the Blues are keen to stay in the legal bounds.

In order to comply with Premier League profit and sustainability regulations, the London club may be willing to sell more academy players this coming summer transfer window.

This is because academy players count as ‘pure profit’ in the financial accounts.

Colwill is an academy player and would thus fall into that ‘pure profit’ category if he were to be sold.
