Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has revealed that Cole Palmer faces a stint on the treatment table ahead of their clash with Liverpool.

The English international was withdrawn during the first-half of last weekend's Premier League defeat to Manchester United and was seen with ice applied to his groin area after taking his place among the substitutes.

Palmer has been battling a persistent groin problem for much of the current campaign, with Maresca now revealing the attacker will be sidelined for the coming weeks.

"We decided to protect a little bit Cole in terms of his injuries not getting worse," he told reporters on Friday.

"We decided to rest him for the next two or three weeks before the international break to see if he can recover 100% and be fully fit from the international break.

I don't think he needs surgery.

"It's a matter of managing his pain in his groin, with the amount of games, it is something that can happen." Chelsea are currently gearing up to take on Brighton in the Premier League this weekend, with Palmer not the sole absentee for the encounter.

Maresca has also revealed that Tosin Adarabioyo is sidelined with a calf problem, while Wesley Fofana will also be unavailable until after the international break after sustaining concussion during the midweek Carabao Cup triumph over Lincoln City.

"We have Tosin injured and will probably be out until international break," said Maresca.

"He has a small problem in his calf.

"Wes Fofana had concussion against Lincoln, and the rest are okay.

We will see if they can join us tomorrow."
