Chelsea are now £40m better off after a “shock” deal surrounding Nicolas Jackson’s exit to Bayern Munich.
Following Liam Delap’s injury in the Blues’ 2-0 win over Fulham on Saturday (30 August), it looked as if the 24-year-old’s switch to the Bundesliga giants would be called off.
However, instead of cancelling the Senegal international’s move to Germany, Chelsea recalled Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland.
This gave Enzo Maresca the depth he needed at centre-forward, meaning that Jackson was able to join Bayern on deadline day.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the deal to sell the striker was an example of another great piece of business from Todd Boehly.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Chelsea managed to get £40million more for Jackson than he is really worth, in what was a “fantastic” deal.

The Senegalese forward has joined Bayern on an initial loan deal which includes an obligation to buy, with the whole package worth around £70m.
Wyness added that he thought Jackson would only be going for £30m, and was shocked that the final price tag was so high.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It was a fantastic deal for Chelsea.
They’ve had a superb financial window, they really have.
“The Nicholas Jackson deal shocked me.
I thought he’d be going for £30m, £40m maximum.
“I’m not sure how he’s going to do over there in the Bundesliga.
Hopefully, he’ll prove me wrong.”

Meanwhile, Axel Disasi could reportedly complete a move away from Chelsea in the next few days, with the Saudi Pro League transfer window open until 23 September.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that Enzo Maresca is keen to sell the 27-year-old, who has no part in his plans.
A proposed switch to Bournemouth fell through earlier in the window, while the defender is believed to have snubbed moves to West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Wolves.
Football Insider revealed on 27 August that Chelsea are aiming to sell players to Saudi clubs as they look to shift members of Maresca’s “bomb squad”.
