Chelsea have been accused of overspending yet again after confirmation of a deal was announced.
Since taking control of the West London club in 2022, Todd Boehly has splashed over £2billion on new players.
The spending hasn’t slowed down this summer either, with Enzo Maresca’s side adding the likes of Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Jamie Gittens to their ranks.
There have been outgoings too, and on Tuesday (29 July) Chelsea confirmed the sale of Joao Felix to Al Nassr for an initial fee of £26million, which could rise to £44m with add-ons.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Felix is another example of a failed signing at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Chelsea could have spent £1bn less during the Boehly reign, and still be in the same position they are now.
The Blues completed the signing of Felix for £45m just 12 months ago, and have only got just over half of that back upon his exit.
Wyness added that Chelsea are prepared for 50% of their signings to lose them money.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s just again coming back to the situation, why spend £2bn when you can get it for £1bn?
“They’ve spent way too much.
They’ll be looking at that and saying, Chelsea are prepared to offload people at lower rates, accept the losses, and move on.
“If Chelsea have factored that into this whole spending splurge, fair enough.
That’s the trouble, when they make a mistake, it does come into some big red ink.”

Meanwhile, Aston Villa are set to demand in excess of £80m to entertain offers for Morgan Rogers amid growing interest from Chelsea, sources have told Football Insider.
Rogers is seen as the “dream signing” for Chelsea, who have been keeping a close eye on his progress at Villa Park after a successful season under Unai Emery.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 28 July that Chelsea have proposed a player exchange for Rogers including cash plus Tosin Adarabioyo and Nicolas Jackson.
However, Villa are extremely reluctant to lose the England international this summer and have no plans to weaken Emery’s squad in the closing stages of the window.
