Chelsea have reached a £14 million agreement to sign Ecuadorian football prodigy Kendry Paez from Independiente del Valle. The 15-year-old midfield sensation, rated as one of South America's brightest young talents, has already made a significant impact in Ecuador's top flight and on the international stage.
Paez became the youngest South American ever to score in a World Cup qualifier at just 16 years and 161 days old, securing Ecuador's opening goal in a 2-1 away victory against Bolivia. Known for his composure and skill, he has also set records as the youngest scorer in Ecuador’s top league and at the FIFA U20 World Cup. He captained Ecuador’s Under-17 team to the final of the South American U17 Championship this year, further highlighting his prodigious talent.

Due to current FIFA regulations post-Brexit, Chelsea will have to wait until Kendry Paez turns 18 in May 2025 before he can officially join and play for the club. Despite this, he is already seen as a key part of Chelsea’s rebuilding plans under new management following a disappointing recent season.
Kendry Paez’s signing marks Chelsea’s first move of the transfer period aimed at rejuvenating their squad with exciting young talent. The club looks to benefit long-term from his creative abilities and scoring capacity as he develops into a top-level player.
