Chelsea will donate a cut of their Club World Cup winnings to Diogo Jota’s family.
Enzo Maresca’s side earned in the region of £84 million after winning the inaugural edition of FIFA’s revamped club competition by defeating Paris Saint-Germain.
A round £11M of that figure has been allocated to the Londoners’ squad as bonus payments for their participation in the tournament based in the United States.
But the Athletic claim that an equal portion will be set aside for the family of Jota following his untimely death just 10 days before the Club World Cup showpiece.
A joint decision between the club and its players is set to see $500,000 (circa £368,000) paid to the Liverpool forward and fellow footballer brother Andre Silva.
Both Jota and Silva were killed when the Lamborghini they were travelling in suffered a tyre blowout in the Spanish province of Zamora early on July 3.
Liverpool are set to pay a series of emotional tribute to Jota as Arne Slot’s side kick off their Premier League defence in Friday’s opener at home to Bournemouth.
A minute’s silence will be held before kick-off at Anfield while a special fan mosaic is also planned alongside a specially created emblem worn on the Reds’ shirts.
