Chelsea have made up their mind regarding a return for Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace after they suffered a major blow to Levi Colwill.
After falling away during the 2024-25 Premier League as they couldn’t contend with title-winners Liverpool, the Blues had a wonderful end to the season.
Enzo Maresca’s side not only secured Champions League football but they also comfortably won the Conference League and surprised everyone by beating the kings of Europe PSG in the Club World Cup final.
The west London side look very confident going into the new season and have been selling and buying at an extremely fast rate.

Adding to their targets, Chelsea have been looking at re-signing former youth player Guehi for quite some time but thus far have not made a move to bring the Palace captain back to Stamford Bridge, and it now appears they will not do so.
According to a report by the Telegraph (9 August), Maresca’s side are “prioritising other transfer targets” which has put Liverpool in “pole position” for the England international.
The Italian stated that the club are “trying also to find different solutions” following the anterior ligament injury to centre-back Colwill, leaving the defence quite light.

Guehi is “admired” by his former side but his return is “not currently on the agenda”, as per the report, despite the 25-year-old having one-year left on his contract.

Football Insider verdict
Whilst the injury to Colwill is a major loss given his importance to the side last season, the west London side still have an array of options to cover.
Wesley Fofana is also out of action currently with the Frenchman forming the first-choice starting pair with the Englishman.
However, after Renato Veiga’s deal fell through with Atletico Madrid, the Portuguese could have a golden opportunity to break into the starting team in the absence of their main centre-backs.
Similarly, Jorrel Hato has just joined from Ajax and is a versatile option that can play on the left and in the middle.

Trevoh Chalobah impressed when called upon in Fofana’s absence and can also be a dependable go-to for the manager.
Moreover Aaron Anselmino is waiting in the wings to get the call up after officially returning to his parent club after a loan to Boca Juniors.
Maresca is certainly not short of options at the back and, after the exertions of the Club World Cup, the Italian may need to turn to alternatives at the start of the upcoming season.
Colwill and Fofana are both huge misses for the Blues but I think they can make do with the abundance of options they currently have.
