Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their defensive ranks which may force manager Enzo Maresca to change his transfer plans.
The Blues have had a shortened pre-season programme due to their participation in the Club World Cup.
Despite two impressive victories, pre-season has brought Maresca injuries to contend with that could dent the progress they have been showing under the Italian.
In the second half of the AC Milan match, centre-back Trevoh Chalobah limped off injured and Chelsea will have to wait nervously to find out how long the 26-year-old could be out for.
It is a more devastating blow to Maresca after Levi Colwill suffered an ACL injury in training which will force the defender to miss the majority of the season.
The injuries could force Maresca to keep Tosin Adarabioyo at the club, a player he was plotting to use in a swap deal to capture Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers.
Adarabioyo will now play a more important role than first thought in the campaign, and the injuries also add pressure to new signing Jorrel Hato to make a good start.

Their short pre-season means Chelsea have only played two matches before the start of the season and now he must work on a new defensive partnership in training before an attacking Palace side visit West London.
Adarabioyo must prove his worth at the club after being a fringe player under Maresca last campaign.
