Liverpool are on the verge of securing a historic deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and the response is already coming in from Premier League rivals.

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo, who currently holds the record as the most expensive signing in British football, has shared his thoughts on the Reds’ next marquee arrival.

Wirtz is expected to arrive at Anfield in a transfer worth a guaranteed £100 million, with a further £16 million in potential add-ons.

But far from being rattled by the news, the Ecuadorian seems relaxed about losing the record.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s opening Club World Cup game, Caicedo said:

“I didn’t know Liverpool were going to pay that.

So I’m happy to hear he’s coming to the Premier League.” (per Sky Sports via reports by Liverpool Echo)

The former Brighton man, who was once the subject of a bid from Liverpool himself, appears content with the Bundesliga star stepping into the spotlight.

Liverpool had a £111 million offer accepted by Brighton before Caicedo chose Chelsea instead.

While Caicedo went on to enjoy a strong second season at Stamford Bridge, even winning Chelsea’s Player of the Year, Liverpool found their own balance.

The 22-year-old registered 10 goals and 12 assists in the Bundesliga last season and is expected to play a central role in Arne Slot’s new Liverpool setup.
