Chelsea are starting to feel the pain as they hold out for a major sponsorship offer for the upcoming campaign.

Since Todd Boehly bought the Blues from Roman Abramovich in 2022, he has spent well over £2billion on new players.

The spending hasn’t slowed down this summer either, with Chelsea adding the likes of Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, and Jamie Gittens, among others.

However, the West London side have had issues finding a permanent front-of-shirt sponsor for a number of years now.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that this could start to affect their finances.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Enzo Maresca’s side are losing out on £70m by not having the relevant shirt sponsors in place for the new season.

Chelsea are holding out for a high sponsorship offer, which is why the whole process is taking so long to complete.

However, Wyness added that the Blues are going to start feeling the pain if they don’t agree on a sponsorship deal soon.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s dragged on for so long.

“I think Chelsea are going to start to feel the pain.

I mean, this is a big number when you start looking at the shirt sponsor and the sleeve sponsor.

That is a big number and I think it’s gonna start to get their attention.

“They’re gonna have to start to get some commercial reality.

“Chelsea are going to have to get somebody in.

They’ve got a headline number they can hide behind, but I think they should actually suck it up and get it done.”

Meanwhile, Newcastle are one of five sides in the race for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, sources have told Football Insider today.

The Magpies are interested in the Senegal international after seeing a number of their top attacking targets move elsewhere.

Sources say that Jackson has made his desire to leave Stamford Bridge clear after the recent incomings of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.

Eddie Howe’s side are joined by fellow Premier League side Aston Villa in the battle to sign the striker, as well as Bayern Munich, AC Milan, and Juventus.
