Chelsea are in line to receive a financial bonus if Premier League-linked former player Conor Gallagher seals a move away from Atletico Madrid before the transfer window closes.
Gallagher left Chelsea last year to join the La Liga giants in a move worth £34million [The Guardian], but his time under Diego Simeone has not quite gone to plan so far.
The England international made 95 senior appearances for the Blues between 2022 and 2024, after successful loan spells at West Brom and Crystal Palace, but Enzo Maresca saw fit to let him leave prior to last season.
He featured 52 times in his debut campaign in Spain, but struggled to consistently start in midfield, and Football Insider recently revealed that Tottenham are interested in signing Gallagher but will have to pay Atletico at least £40m to get a deal done.
Football Insider also revealed on Monday (25 August) that Crystal Palace want to re-sign Gallagher on an initial loan deal, and Chelsea will be advocating for him to move back to England following a new reveal.

The Daily Mail (27 August) have reported that, should Atletico sell Gallagher, then Chelsea would see some cash coming their way after they negotiated a sell-on clause with the Spanish side when they sold him last summer,
It is currently unclear how much the Blues would be line for, as the same report states that those close to the 25-year-old are not disclosing the precise percentage.

While he could leave the club soon, Gallagher is believed to be happy and on a good contract at Atletico, so it does seem increasingly unlikely that Chelsea will see any funds come their way before 1 September.
Football Insider verdict
Chelsea’s midfield is looking as strong as it has done in a long time, with Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer making up a trio that could go toe-to-toe with any other team in the world’s first-choice players in the middle of the park.
Maresca also has the likes of Romeo Lavia, Andrey Santos and new signing Dario Essugo as back-up in that position, while Joao Pedro can play behind the striker when Palmer is unfit.

With that said, there would be little space for a player of Gallagher’s calibre in his squad right now, and so despite Chelsea offering him a new contract last summer [Sky Sports], they were ultimately right to sell him and bank the pure profit made from his departure.
He obviously wanted to leave to become a regular starter at a big club like Atletico, but whether that is finally set to transpire a year after his move is unclear, especially after he was was taken off at half-time in their first game of 2025/26, then only came on for 20 minutes in last weekend’s clash against Elche.
Despite being happy in the Spanish capital, a move back to the Premier League to a club where he is guaranteed more minutes really could benefit him, and the Blues will want to see it happen soon so they can gain even more funds from his departure.
