Chelsea look likely to retain Trevoh Chalobah’s services this summer despite transfer interest after a worrying update on fellow centre-back Levi Colwill’s fitness recently emerged.
Chelsea are competing in the Champions League again next season after finishing fourth in the Premier League, and they have been seriously busy in the transfer market this summer as a result.
Centre-back Chalobah played his part in their success last campaign, after he was recalled to Stamford Bridge in January from an impressive loan spell at Crystal Palace.

The 25-year-old featured 18 times under Enzo Maresca in the second-half of the season, with a start in their Conference League final triumph over Real Betis, and he was rewarded for his strong form with a first call-up to the England squad by Thomas Tuchel.
According to the Daily Mail, Palace were believed to be plotting a fresh move to re-sign Chalobah in May, while The Telegraph reported on Serie A champions Napoli’s interest in his services in June, but the commanding centre-back now looks set to stay at Stamford Bridge for the upcoming campaign.
Maresca paired Chalobah with fellow England international Colwill towards the back-end of last season, and the started together in the Club World Cup final as Chelsea thrashed PSG 3-0 to win the newly revamped tournament last month.
The pair looked set to continue their partnership into the new campaign, but The Times (6 August) have now reported that Chelsea fear that Colwill could miss more than just the start of the new season after he suffered an injury in training.

Enzo Maresca revealed that the 22-year-old had picked up an issue during the club’s first session of pre-season this week, and their report now states that the club are waiting for confirmation about the severity of the injury after he was sent for a further scan.

The Italian boss also admitted that the injury could affect Chelsea’s work during the final weeks of the transfer window, and it seems sure to seal the short-term future of Chalobah, as they are unlikely to sell any of their existing centre-backs while Colwill is out.
Wesley Fofana is nearing a full return to fitness, after Maresca confirmed that he is back in training following a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but his record makes relying on him impossible.
The Frenchman will come into the fold to provide competition to Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo, while Jorrel Hato has joined from Ajax, with Football Insider previously revealing that Chelsea want to sell Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile this summer.
Palace will now be concerned about their centre-back situation, amid the likelihood of Chalobah being unavailable, with Football Insider revealing on Thursday (7 August) that the Eagles are planning to sell Marc Guehi to Liverpool for £40m rather than lose him for free next summer.
The Blues’ defensive record last term was an impressive one, as they let in just 43 Premier League goals to finish the campaign with the third-strongest backline in the top-flight, but that has not stopped Maresca in his desire to freshen up his options this summer.

The 25-year-old has kicked on over the last few months to become a key man at the heart of Maresca’s defence, and he has the ability to improve even further as he gains more experience at international and European level.
His strong performances in the Club World Cup were proof that he has what it takes to be a key man going forward, and his resurgence has been an impressive one after seemingly having no future at the club last summer.
It would make little sense to sell him now regardless of any injury concerns to other centre-backs, and while Blues fans will be reeling at the news of Colwill’s injury woes, they will also be quietly pleased to know that Chalobah will surely not going anywhere, anytime soon as he steps up to be a regular starter in the upcoming campaign.
