Alexander Isak completed a British record £125m move from Newcastle United on transfer deadline day.
DaveOCKOP reported late Sunday evening that talks regarding Isak’s transfer have made promising progress, with respected journalist David Ornstein confirming the update.
We also revealed throughout the summer that Liverpool would return for the Sweden international and were never out of the race to sign him.
The long-running transfer saga was finally concluded on Monday, with the Reds confirming the deal two and a half hours after the window officially closed.
Isak had publicly and privately pushed for a move away from St James’ Park, even going on strike to force the transfer through.
After three years on Tyneside, Isak arrives on Merseyside as the most expensive player in British football history.
The 25-year-old, who is set to join his national teammates for upcoming World Cup qualifiers, says he is eager to begin life with the Premier League champions.
“It’s a mixture of what the club is building, but what they’re building on top of what the club already is,” Isak told Liverpoolfc.com.
“The history of the club.
“I think it’s something difficult to put into words, I think you have to experience it and then explain.
“I think we all know what Liverpool is about, the fans and what they’re about as well.
So, yeah, looking forward to getting to experience that.”
According to the Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele, Chelsea enquired about Isak earlier in the window, but he only wanted to join Arne Slot’s Liverpool.
