Chelsea could now miss out on the signing of Xavi Simons to Tottenham as their main concentration remains on Alejandro Garnacho.
The Argentinian winger is a member of Ruben Amorim‘s “bomb squad” at Old Trafford, alongside Rasmus Hojlund, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia, having fallen out completely with the manager.
Despite his obvious disciplinary issues off the pitch, Football Insider understood earlier this month that Man United would wait until Garnacho’s asking price dipped before sealing a deal.
Each day, a new update appears to suggest that a transfer is getting closer and closer between the two Premier League giants, but with more time being wasted on the winger, the Blues could miss out on a crucial signing.

Tottenham have discussed the possibility of hijacking a deal for Simons, a player who has impressed massively since moving to RB Leipzig, where has now has 22 goals and 22 assists in 78 appearances.
The likelihood of that exact event happening this summer could skyrocket after recent developments in North London, with Enzo Maresca‘s side only focusing on one move at a time, while also attempting to move current players on.

Chelsea are expected to get rid of Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Raheem Sterling, and even Tyrique George, but until those moves happen, there is limited space in the squad.
If Thomas Frank and Daniel Levy want to make up for the failed signing of Eberechi Eze, the duo must act swiftly and smartly, pushing through a deal with the Bundesliga giants before the Blues have time to react.
As The Independent note, Chelsea signing Simons had appeared a “certainty” but the focus on Garnacho and moving players out has left the door open for Spurs to march straight through.
Despite the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, injury blows to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have left Frank desperate for more stars in the final third.
Pape Sarr has been trusted to play an attacking role, which appeared to pay off during a shock 2-0 win over Man City on Saturday, 23 August, but he should not be viewed as a long-term fix for Spurs.

Simons is a player who could totally transform the Lilywhites’ attack, boasting major roles for RB Leipzig and the Netherlands national team, hence why so many European teams are interested.
However, with Chelsea completely stuck on getting their deal done for Garnacho, Spurs have been presented with the perfect opportunity to steal the transfer right from under their rival’s nose.
Tottenham have an unhappy history with their own prospective recruits being stolen away, with Eberechi Eze to Arsenal the latest example, while Willian’s infamous diversion to Stamford Bridge stands out, but they have a key chance to turn the tables for once.
Ange Postecoglou‘s rollercoaster campaign was littered with high-profile injuries, with very little done to replace those stars during the winter, and the same cannot happen if Frank is to be successful this term.
