Chesterfield have officially released their retained list, whilst also confirming those that are set to be released upon the expiry of their contracts.
The League Two side finished seventh in the table this season, accumulating 70 points.
Four players have been confirmed to leave the club, with one name popping up that belongs to a former member of Liverpool Football Club’s academy.
Kane Drummond was released from Liverpool’s academy at the age of 16 and then joined the Robbie Fowler academy where he won the English Colleges Championship and Dubai International Super Cup.
After leaving that academy, Drummond went on to join Northwest Counties Football League Premier Division club Warrington Royals in 2019.
He became the first contracted player in the club’s history when he put pen to paper on a new deal on 21st January 2020.
He then moved on to Macclesfield in 2022 for an undisclosed fee.
The following season he was named in the Premier Division’s team of the season.
Then, on 9th May 2024, Drummond signed for Chesterfield who had been newly promoted to League Two on a one-year deal.
Drummond scored his first league goal for the club against Tranmere Rovers on 7th December 2024, assisted by former Macclesfield teammate James Berry.
A big move for the player, but one that has not worked out in the way he would have hoped.
Playing as a centre-forward, Drummond appeared 28 times for Chesterfield, scoring one goal and registering one assist throughout 1,198 minutes across all competitions this season.
As a result of his numbers not being as high as the club would have liked, Chesterfield have opted against extending Drummond’s stay at the club and he has been released.
The 24-year-old will now look to pick himself back up and find another club ahead of next season.
