Tottenham manager Thomas Frank looks set to fail to sign his third top target of the summer, in a fresh blow to the North London club.
Tottenham instigated a row with Nottingham Forest over Morgan Gibbs-White, and then Arsenal hijacked a move for Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.
Gibbs-White signed a new contract at Nottingham Forest, and with just days left of the transfer window Frank does not have a natural number 10 currently available for selection in his ranks.
The funds generated by the sale could help Chelsea finalise a deal for target Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig.
Spurs are considering hijacking the transfer of attacking midfielder Simons, and Frank needs to show some ruthlessness in the transfer market to beat a rival to a star signing.

Chelsea have strengthen their attack this summer, whilst aside from the signing of Mohammed Kudus, Spurs are relying largely on the same forward options from the side last season that finished 17th in the Premier League.

Spurs have had an excellent start to the season with two wins from two in the Premier League, five goals scored and none conceded, but the addition of Simons not only adds depth and an increased creativity to the side, it will free up Kudus to occupy his favoured position on the right flank.

Allowing Simons to join Chelsea though could raise question marks over Spurs and Frank’s recruitment process and failing to get a deal over the line for another big signing.
With Champions League football and hopes of a top five Premier League finish this campaign, there is still work to do for Frank in the final days of the transfer market to ensure his squad can cope without Maddison and Kulusevski for the foreseeable future.
