Clark Robertson in action for Dundee

Clark Robertson has insisted the players are buying into Steven Pressley and if everyone sticks together they can really drive Dundee forward.

It comes as the Dark Blues failed to get out of their Premier Sports Cup group and then lost their Premiership opener against Hibs.

The alarm bells are ringing but Pressley has been asked to do a total rebuild.

Robertson knows they still need strengthening and other new boys are still finding their feet.

The defender stated: “It's obviously difficult.

We’ve got a lot to work on.

“I think we showed good parts of our game today when we were compact out of possession.

“We've got to believe more in our quality going forward and trust each other more in the ball.

“I think we will grow as a group as the season goes on.

“I think the manager's alluded that there's probably more players coming in to make us stronger as well, which will help us.

"I think we've just got to stick together.

Like I say, we've got a lot more learning to do.”

The Dundee support booed their team off the pitch on Sunday but Robertson has urged them to keep the faith.

“It's up to us to be able to give them something to shout about on the pitch,” the former Aberdeen player acknowledged.

“Like I say, we'll stick together as a group in that changing room.

Hopefully we can make it a successful season.”

Robertson knows Dundee didn’t show enough in an attacking sense to get an equaliser against Hibernian.

The central defender added: “Like I say, we were comfortable in our shape without putting them under pressure.

I think we were passive.

“There has to be triggers when we are in that shape to be able to get up against them and try to get us higher up the pitch.

“I think probably in the last ten minutes we did that a bit more, but not enough during the second half.”

Dundee struggled for form at Dens last season and that is something Robertson acknowledged that needs to be improved.

Dundee boss Steven Pressley

He stated: “It's a new group, There's still more new players to come in.

“I think for any successful team you've got to be good at home.

He missed the Hibs’ game with a knee injury.

Robertson knows he will be pivotal for Dundee.
