Liverpool have blitzed the early summer window by securing Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez, fortifying both flanks and adding creativity in midfield.
With these marquee signings concluded, David Ornstein has already reported that there could be a slight pause in incoming business as the club assesses the market.
Despite this lull, exits remain on the agenda: Darwin Nunez is expected to depart as Liverpool seeks to recoup funds.
The Uruguayan has reportedly given Napoli the green light to explore a transfer, favouring Conte’s project in Naples over other suitors.
While Liverpool aims for a substantial fee to offset their heavy outlay on the player in 2022, Napoli is negotiating a deal in the region of €42–50 million, mindful of financial feasibility and salary demands.
But it seems that Napoli will not be satisfied until they land the No.9.
According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Aurelio De Laurentiis – Napoli’s chief executive – has turned up the heat on Liverpool in the race for Nunez
Napoli’s negotiating stance has been anything but subtle.
De Laurentiis himself—and his close aides—have been dialling up Liverpool’s hierarchy multiple times daily.
He and his representatives are reportedly “bombarding” the Premier League club with calls.
The Partenopei are pushing to soften Liverpool’s lofty asking price, which is believed to hover around €70 million.
While Liverpool demand a fee close to €70 million, Napoli hopes to strike a deal in the €42–50 million range.
The Naples side has also reportedly resolved Nunez’s wage demands at around €5 million net per season.
Fabrizio Romano has stated in no uncertain terms that the striker’s departure is almost assured this summer.
Meanwhile, Former Uruguay and Napoli player Walter Gargano believes Nunez is Napoli-bound, and recently revealed a phone call with the Liverpool player:
“I heard Darwin Nunez, he said ‘yes, I’m coming to Naples.
I’m waiting to sign,” he said.
“I talked to Nunez on the phone, he will decide with his family as De Bruyne did?
He told me he wants to come right away, he’s waiting to sign with Napoli.”
The striker’s contract runs until 2028, giving Liverpool a strong negotiating position despite his reduced playing time
However, the club appears willing to accept a financial loss on their investment rather than retain an asset that is going to depreciate as time goes on.
His last start for Liverpool came in March 2025, after which Slot increasingly favoured Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota in central attacking roles.
As a result, it appears increasingly likely that Nunez’s time at Liverpool will come to an end with a record of 40 goals in 122 matches for the club since his arrival in 2022.
