Liverpool may be given a huge boost in their pursuit of one summer transfer target.

Preparations for the Reds’ reported busy summer transfer window has already begun with links with several players increasingly making the rounds in the last couple of days.

It is thought that Arne Slot will be handed a considerable transfer kitty to pursue players that will improve his current squad and put Liverpool in a position to compete favourably for the Premier League title next season.

The club’s hierarchy, determined to avoid the stagnation that followed their 2019/20 title, is reportedly ready to back Slot with substantial funds to fend off resurgent rivals Manchester City and Arsenal.

As many as four players could join the club this summer, with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s imminent departure likely to increase that number.

Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong is thought to be Liverpool’s main transfer target for that position.

Elsewhere, Milos Kerkez and Dean Huijsen are other players high on Liverpool’s radar, while Liverpool’s search for a striker in the summer includes Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko, Victor Osimhen and Hugo Ekitike.

Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo has also been touted as a possible target for the club’s attack in the last few weeks.

The Cameroonian has been one of the Bees’ best players in recent seasons, and he has taken his game to a new level this season following Ivan Toney’s summer departure.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for him for some time now, and they are reportedly considering signing him this summer.

Brentford are thought to want £60m for Buemo.

Their valuation comes after the sales of Neal Maupay, Ollie Watkins, and Ivan Toney in previous seasons, with Brentford developing a reputation for nurturing top talent before selling it for a significant profit.

And now, according to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, the Bees will be willing to listen to offers for the attacker this summer.

“Brentford will listen to offers for Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa but are not under any pressure to sell their players, Sky Sports News understands,” Thomas wrote.

“There is a feeling within the club that Mbeumo has earned the chance to move to a bigger side this summer, if an offer meets his valuation.”

Meanwhile, Brentford boss Thomas Frank has already hinted that Mbeumo’s future may lie elsewhere.

Speaking to Sky Sports last week, the Dane said, “If the price is right – and that’s going to be expensive – is coming, then I’m sure the club will be open to it.”

He added, “I’ve said many times: we are a selling club?

But at the same time, we have to reinforce that there are 10 clubs in the world who aren’t selling clubs.”

Mbeumo, 25, has scored 18 goals this season.

Since joining Brentford, he has delivered 40 goals and 27 assists in 131 top-flight appearances.
