Cody Gakpo has become the latest Liverpool player to make a personal visit to Anfield to pay his respects to Diogo Jota.

Gakpo was one of a number of Reds stars who travelled to Portugal last week for Jota's funeral.

The 28-year-old was killed in the early hours of Thursday (July 3), along with his brother, Andre Silva, after they were involved in a car crash.



They had been travelling across Spain in order to catch a ferry to return to England for the start of Liverpool's pre-season when their vehicle veered off the road following a tyre blowout.

Following the funeral, the Reds reported back to the AXA Training Centre for the start of pre-season training on Tuesday (July 8).

Later that evening, left-back Andy Robertson and head coach Arne Slot, as well as FSG CEO of Football Michael Edwards, all paid personal visits to Anfield to show their respects to Jota

And Gakpo has now become the latest Liverpool player to honour the Portuguese, as he laid a card and floral tribute alongside the hundreds of tributes already in place outside the Main Stand.

Reds CEO Billy Hogan had earlier laid his own floral tribute for Jota after visiting Anfield alongside members of the club’s executive team.

Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson had previously made a personal visit to Anfield last Friday (July 4) to lay flowers and a scarf amongst the tributes outside the stadium in honour of Jota.

He also signed the club’s book of condolences prior to travelling to Portugal with his former team-mates for Jota’s funeral.

Everton manager David Moyes and his assistant, Alan Irvine, also laid flowers in honour of Jota as they paid their own respects on Saturday (July 5).

Meanwhile, Blues strikers Beto and Youssef Chermiti, along with club ambassador Ian Snodin, had previously laid flowers at Anfield on Friday (July 4).

Liverpool are set to play their first game since Jota's passing on Sunday (July 13) when they travel to Preston North End, with it now being confirmed that the Reds will fulfil the fixture after consulting players and staff, and following sensitive talks with the Championship out.
