Cody Gakpo shares his candid assessment of Arne Slot as the Dutchman nears closer to replacing Jurgen Klopp, who has been in charge on Merseyside for nine years.
The Reds have reached an agreement with Feyenoord to appoint the 45-year-old at the end of the current season.
Slot, much like Klopp, oversaw his penultimate home game in charge of the club on Sunday, securing a comprehensive 5-0 victory over PEC Zwolle.
PSV Eindhoven clinched the Eredivisie title earlier in the day, while Feyenoord will finish second in the division, currently sitting 15 points clear of third-placed FC Twente.
After Sunday’s win, Slot was seen bidding farewell to supporters, waving in a manner indicating his impending departure.
However, Feyenoord still have one more home match to play, although a significant portion of the home end will remain empty as a consequence of the use of fireworks during their KNVB Cup semi-final victory over Groningen.
Fellow Dutchman Cody Gakpo was asked for his thoughts on Slot after Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur defeat on Sunday and he told Viaplay: “To be honest, I have never worked with him.
“I know of course that he is a very good coach who has shown it at AZ and Feyenoord too.”
“Of course, we played football a few times against often, difficult games.
“I am very curious and I think we are all very much looking forward to it.
“The focus at the moment is not there yet and is now on finishing the last two games well for ourselves, the club, the coach, and then we will look further at the new coach.”
Arne Slot, meanwhile, stated in an interview that he will be seeking advice from Klopp.
“I think it’s normal that if you go to a new club, and if that would be Liverpool, it is normal that you contact the former coach.
I did this when I went to Feyenoord as well,” he said.
“It’s more than normal that, all the knowledge a person has that worked a few years at that club – and in his situation, even nine years – that you contact him.
“But if there’s an official confirmation when the season is done, it would be strange if I didn’t call him then.”
