Cody Gakpo has fired a two-word message to impending Liverpool signing Jeremie Frimpong as the social media hints continue.

The Dutch connection looks set to be strengthened with the versatile right-sided player set to join Arne Slot's Premier League champions.

The Reds are now closing in on a deal for the 24-year-old - with a deal reportedly set to be announced at the end of the season.

Bayer Leverkusen's season concluded last week with Xabi Alonso departing the club - guiding them to the Bundesliga title last term before marginally missing out and finishing second this time around.

Frimpong has posted to his Instagram after a trip to Boston, where he watched a Boston Red Sox Major League Baseball match - who are coincidentally owned by the Reds owners, Fenway Sports Group.

The post was captioned: "Busy in Boston," and attracted a host of likes from his soon-to-be Liverpool teammates including Ryan Gravenberch and Gakpo.

Liverpool winger, Gakpo, posted a tongue-in-cheek comment as their running joke continued: "Sick laaa."

Interestingly, Frimpong's agent Jeffrey Lemmert responded with a cryptic egg-timer emoji, perhaps possibly to suggest his next move is drawing closer.

He shared a carousel of pictures, including outside the New Balance headquarters, after striking a deal with the major sports manufacturer in recent years.

During the most recent international break, footage emerged showing Frimpong embracing Dutch teammates - who play their club football at Anfield - mimicking the Scouse accent.

After reports of Liverpool's interest, the footage soon resurfaced and it's now become a passing remark between Frimpong and the Liverpool contingent.

In light of Gravenberch being unveiled as the Premier League Young Player of the Season, Frimpong commented on his Instagram post: "Ryan laaa."

While reports have continued to swirl, and the ECHO reporting that a deal is close for Frimpong, head coach Arne Slot has remained coy regarding transfer business.

"What do you think?" The Dutch tactician responded.

"I think what we all know is the moment we announce it, that is the moment to talk about it in general.

"We haven't announced anything so there is no need to talk about anyone."
