It seems interest in Cody Gakpo this summer is legitimate.
The Dutch international, who had steadily grown into Arne Slot’s side, was delivering some of his most consistent performances since arriving from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023.
With 10 goals and 4 assists in 35 Premier League appearances, the versatile forward was proving his worth as a key component in Liverpool’s title-winning squad.
However, Gakpo’s momentum was significantly disrupted following an unfortunate ankle injury in the Merseyside back in March.
Nevertheless, the Dutchman still showed improvement this term, and some of Europe’s elite have stepped up and taken notice.
According to a report from German publication Kicker, Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl is “in contact” with the attacker’s representatives as the Bavarian giants seek attacking reinforcements.
The interest from Bayern comes in the wake of their failed pursuit of Florian Wirtz, who ultimately chose Liverpool over the German champions.
This setback has prompted Bayern to explore alternative options, with Gakpo emerging as an attractive proposition.
Gakpo is represented by SEG (Sports Entertainment Group), an international talent management agency that guides over 600 talents worldwide.
The Dutch-based agency has a stellar reputation in football, representing high-profile clients including former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, and several other prominent players and coaches.
Kicker assert that the Reds will ask for a minimum of €70 million – a fee that would require the German club to generate funds through player sales before any deal could be completed.
Gakpo’s current deal runs until 2028, providing Liverpool with significant leverage in any negotiations.
The club is under no immediate pressure to sell, though substantial offers could alter their stance, particularly if they need to fund other transfer activities.
And with Barcelona already having made an approach for Luis Diaz, it looks like Liverpool’s title-winning squad is in demand around Europe.
