Cody Gakpo has enjoyed his best season yet for Liverpool, as he is seen as a key part of Arne Slot’s plans.
Struggling in his first two seasons at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, where he was deployed in numerous positions as Klopp attempted to fit him into his team, Arne Slot has primarily used Gakpo in his preferred left-wing position and has reaped the rewards of that decision.
Cody Gakpo has featured 49 times for the Reds in 2024/25, scoring 18 goals and providing 7 assists.
He was particularly key in Liverpool’s title run-in, with a memorable goal against Tottenham Hotspur helping Liverpool on their way to a 5-1 thrashing of the London side and a Premier league title.
Due to Gakpo’s effectiveness from the left, he has often pushed Luis Diaz into the No.9 position, despite both players preferring the wing.
Cody Gakpo would be silly to consider a move away from Merseyside after such an individually successful campaign, but due to the quality of his performances, he has attracted interest from Bayern Munich.
He is currently away on international duty with the Netherlands as they take on Finland and Malta in their world cup qualifiers for 2026.
The Dutch forward was asked about potential interest from the Bavarians, in which he replied with a rather vague answer.
“I haven’t heard anything about it myself.
I’m closing myself off from it.”
“Maybe my agent has heard something, but I am focusing on myself.”
It is evident that Gakpo did not take that opportunity to affirm his commitment to Liverpool, but he also didn’t add fuel to the fire by confirming that he may consider a move away this summer.
Arne Slot sees Cody Gakpo as part of the future of his Liverpool squad and would be unwilling to see a departure of his fellow countryman.
Bayern Munich have been swiftly looking for attacking reinforcements this summer, as it was revealed early on in the transfer saga surrounding Florian Wirtz that the German youngster rejected a move to Munich in favour of a switch to Liverpool instead.
