Cody Gakpo has shed light on what new summer signing Jeremie Frimpong will bring to Liverpool ahead of the next season.
Frimpong completed his switch to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen for £29.5m on a five-year deal.
The 24-year-old was brought in as a replacement for academy graduate Trent Alexander-Arnold, who joined Real Madrid in time to play in the Club World Cup.
The versatile right-footer was instrumental as he helped Leverkusen secure their first Bundesliga title in 2023-24.
He racked up 53 appearances in all competitions as they finished second last season.
“It went quite easy.
Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer,” Frimpong said after his contract.
“For me, it was like, ‘Whatever you guys do, just get this done’, [speaking to] my agents: ‘Just get this done.’
“Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together.
“I’m just excited to be here.
Thank you guys for accepting me and I won’t let you guys down and I’ll give you the energy that you guys want.”
The Netherlands international will compete with Northern Ireland defender Conor Bradley, who recently signed a new four-year contract with the club for the right-back spot.
Jeremie Frimpong, who came through the youth ranks at Manchester City, has joined a Dutch contingent of Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch at Liverpool.
Gakpo, who knows Frimpong at the national team level, is confident the Dutchman will add plenty to a Liverpool squad that won the Premier League title and looks to build on it.
He told Liverpoolfc.com on tour in Hong Kong: “[He will bring] a lot.
I think he can help us a lot.”
