Crystal Palace striker Jean-Phillippe Mateta was given a sanction after his goal celebration, drawing a reaction from Cole Palmer.
Oliver Glasner’s side maintained their unbeaten start to the Premier League after Crystal Palace beat Aston Villa in a 3-0 win on 31 August
Just days after Crystal Palace secured Conference League qualification, the team showed no sign of fatigue at Villa Park, with goals from Mateta, Ismaila Sarr and Marc Guehi.
After Mateta opened the scoring for Palace against Villa from the penalty spot, he celebrated with his traditional action of kicking the corner flag.
But this time, he received a punishment for the act.
After sending Marco Bizot the wrong way from the penalty spot, Mateta celebrated in trademark fashion by sprinting to the corner flag and kicking it.
This time, however, the referee produced a yellow card for his act.
Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett told Football Insider that Mateta’s booking was the “correct call” on the basis that the celebration caused a delay to the restart.
But not everyone agreed, as Chelsea star Palmer was quick to respond to the news, commenting on SPORT Bible’s Instagram post about the incident with the words: “Game’s gone.”

Mateta has become well known for the unique celebration and has carried his fine form into this season, scoring three goals in six matches.
After hitting 17 goals last term, interest in his signature grew over the summer, but Football Insider revealed that Palace remain confident of keeping Mateta.
It was also revealed back in December that Crystal Palace were planning to hold talks with Mateta over a new contract to deter any rival interest.
While a deal has yet to be finalised, he is expected to remain at Selhurst Park for the foreseeable future.

While Mateta is set to stay, one player that may still leave is Guehi, with Liverpool continuing to push for his signature.
However, if their captain does leave, it’s set to be a busy deadline day as Football Insider revealed Crystal Palace will aim to sign two new centre-backs if Guehi completes his move away.
Palace are closing in on a deal to sign Toulouse star Jaydee Canvot but will remain active in the window if a deal is reached to sell Guehi.
