Chelsea star Cole Palmer has stirred up Man United fans with a cryptic response as Kobbie Mainoo broke his silence on social media after a late-window exit denied.

Mainoo was not allowed to leave Man United in the transfer window despite the midfielder requesting to leave on loan to gain more gametime for this season.

He failed to start in any of the side’s first three fixtures, and after Ruben Amorim said the midfielder must compete with Bruno Fernandes, Mainoo was keen to leave on loan.

However, United made it clear that they would not sanction his departure without signing a replacement, and as the window drew to a close without reinforcements, Mainoo’s request was denied.

Now, days after the summer window has shut, the 20-year-old shared a mysterious message of his own, before a response by Palmer that may fuel speculation.

Mainoo posted on Instagram with multiple pictures of himself training, either on the pitch or in the gym, with a caption that read: “Nothing pretty”.

Palmer shared a notable response as he commented for him to be “free” with a message to say: “3 my boy”.

Other players that shared a response were Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund, who all liked the message.

Man United fans called for Amorim to be sacked if Mainoo was sold, with some supporters backing the youngster over the manager.

The Englishman’s playing time has been limited ever since Amorim arrived in November 2024 due to a system that deploys two central midfielders.

With a World Cup on the horizon, the youngster must impress in the limited time he receives, if he wants a place on the plane.

While Mainoo’s long-term future at the club remain uncertain, the club may surprisingly extend outcast Jadon Sancho.

Football Insider revealed Man United are planning to trigger the extension clause in Sancho’s contract to prevent him from leaving on a free transfer the following summer.

Sancho is currently on loan at Aston Villa after sealing a deadline-day move, with Villa covering 80% of his wages.

United are keen to protect his value and aim to secure a transfer fee if he leaves permanently.
