Wayne Rooney has been taunted by his wife Coleen after he admitted to locking her out of their old home for putting up a Liverpool flag.

Coleen is a firm supporter of the reigning Premier League champions, and Rooney grew up an Everton fan before becoming a Manchester United legend.

The Rooney household is divided when the Merseyside derby rolls around, with both the Blue and Red halves of Liverpool represented.

England icon Wayne played in the fierce occasion over two spells with the Toffees, and often clashed with Liverpool during his record-breaking years with United.

On the other hand, Coleen has allegiances that lie with Arne Slot's side, and the two lightheartedly butted heads when Liverpool won the title five years ago.

After Rooney revealed that he locked Coleen out of their home after she put up a flag celebrating the Reds and Jurgen Klopp's 2019/20 title success, she took to social media to continue taunting her other half.

Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show in the build-up to the Merseyside derby, Rooney shed some light on an incident that occurred in 2020.

"When they won the Premier League a few years ago, I actually came home, I was playing for Derby at the time, I've come home and Coleen has got Liverpool flags put up outside the house," he said.

"It was our old house, so outside the front door, there was a little balcony thing, and the flag was outside the window there.

Not too long, but she was stuck on the balcony!"

A clip of Rooney's story was uploaded to social media platform X, and Coleen showed her humorous character as she took the opportunity to rub salt into her husband's wounds by reposting the video with a picture of the flag in question.

With masking tape in hand, Coleen can be seen securing a flag to the house's front balcony that read "League champions 2019/20" with pictures of manager Klopp and the Liverpool cohort.

The 39-year-old captioned the post with a host of laughing emojis.

Rooney added that playing against Liverpool was always a heated affair, and he reiterated that he would often want to "smash" Reds legend Steven Gerrard any time they did battle.

"We were good mates off the pitch and whenever I got a chance I'm thinking, 'I'm going to absolutely smash you,' and I did.
