Liverpool will take on Crystal Palace in the season's annual curtain-raiser, the Community Shield, at the same time as last year.

The Premier League champions come up against the FA Cup winners, aiming to claim the campaign’s first piece of silverware.

The Reds are involved in the ‘glorified friendly’ fixture for the first time since winning it at Manchester City's expense in 2022.

Oliver Glasner prevented a repeat of that fixture three years on after masterminding Palace's 1-0 win over Pep Guardiola's men in May.

While the curtain-raiser lacks the prestige of the FA Cup, Palace will now relish the prospect of winning more silverware at Wembley.

Meanwhile, for 16-time Community Shield winners Liverpool, it will provide a good indication of how their new-look team is shaping up.

Arne Slot has splashed over £250million on upgrading his squad, with Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerez all likely to make their competitive debuts for the Reds.

The 2025/26 curtain-raiser will take place on Sunday, August 10.

It will be held at Wembley Stadium, with kick-off set for 3pm.

This is the same time as Man City and Man United faced off in 2024.

It will be broadcast live on TNT Sports and Discovery+ from 2pm.

The FA confirmed that there would be a change in the broadcast of the Community Shield, as it was previously free-to-air on ITV.

Liverpool, who won the title at a canter last season, begin their defence by welcoming Bournemouth at 8pm, live on talkSPORT.

Palace, meanwhile, are involved in a London derby two days later away at Stamford Bridge against Champions League outfit Chelsea.
