Diogo Jota’s tragic death has seen an outpouring of emotion on social media.

The horrific news that Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, had died in a car accident on Thursday has shocked the whole footballing community.

The tributes being paid to Jota have been truly heartwarming and the Portuguese’s friends and family have been at the forefront of everybody’s minds.

The 28-year-old’s funeral took place in his hometown of Gondomar, Portugal on Saturday, with many of Liverpool’s squad in attendance as he was laid to rest.

Many who may never have known Jota knew him for being an immensely talented footballer, but those close to him want the rest to know that he was an even better person, with Conor Coady one of these people who want his legacy to live on.

Coady was, of course, an ex-Liverpool player but spent two seasons as teammates with Jota at Wolves.

Even though they were only together a short period of time, the former Wolves captain was quick to say how Jota made an instant and everlasting impression, highlighting the type of person he was.

“He was the heart and soul of the dressing room.

But you knew you could go to him about anything,” Coady told the BBC.

“For me as a captain, it was an honour and a dream to play with him.

He was born to play in the Premier League but Wolves were in the Championship.

“I used to always tell young people they need to learn from players like Diogo and Ruben [Neves], who were brave enough to step into the Championship to help a club who were struggling at that time.

“He was brave enough to bring his childhood sweetheart to Wolverhampton and really buy into the culture of England.

But it was a pleasure to call him a friend.”

To many, Liverpool is just another football club, but to those associated, it is a tight-knit family.

The Reds have ensured they are doing everything in their power to honour Jota in the right way, with the club already taking some steps to achieve this.

Firstly, Liverpool have confirmed that they will be ‘immortalising’ the No.

20 shirt, the first time they have retired a number in their history.

They will also be paying his remaining two years’ worth of wages to his family, ensuring they have everything they need in this hugely difficult time.

Liverpool could also build a statue, name something after Jota or organise an annual friendly to ensure his legacy lives on forever.

But, if there is one thing that most will know about the Reds, it is that they will likely come to the right decision and whatever they choose, it will be with the sole purpose of immortalising Jota forever.
