Darwin Núñez is currently a major transfer target, with Liverpool considering offers as the striker gives his consent to a potential move. The 26-year-old Uruguayan forward is open to leaving Liverpool, where he struggled to secure a consistent starting position under manager Arne Slot. Liverpool is reportedly willing to sell Núñez for the right price, seeking to recoup much of the €80m+ fee they paid Benfica in 2022.
Two key clubs have emerged as front-runners in the race to sign Núñez. Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal has made significant advances, with verbal agreements in place and negotiations continuing. Núñez has expressed interest in Al-Hilal's ambitious project, especially with Simone Inzaghi as the newly appointed coach. Al-Hilal is prepared to offer a lucrative financial package, including a reported salary of at least $35 million per year, making the deal potentially one of the highest ever for the club, just behind Neymar's transfer. However, they have not yet made an official offer, as of early August 2025.

Meanwhile, AC Milan has also placed Núñez at the top of their striker targets as they seek to bolster their attacking line-up. Milan's sporting director, Igli Tare, has prioritized acquiring a high-level centre-forward, with Núñez favored despite the high cost of acquisition. Milan has initiated talks directly with the player, although financial and negotiation hurdles remain, especially considering Al-Hilal's interest.
Other forwards such as Arnaud Kalimuendo, Dusan Vlahovic, and Rasmus Hojlund are also on Milan's radar, but Núñez is the primary target. Liverpool’s evolving stance on Núñez contrasts with earlier in the year when approaches from Saudi Arabia were reportedly rejected. The transfer window of 2025 is expected to see final movements as Liverpool enhances its squad with new signings and tests the market for Núñez’s departure.
