Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford have been left out of Manchester United’s squad for their away game at Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday.

Anthony Elanga instead started for Ralf Rangnick’s side, while Philippe Coutinho has been named by Steven Gerrard on Aston Villa’s bench and is poised to make his debut.

Ronaldo missed United’s FA Cup match on Monday, also against Villa, due to a minor muscular issue.

Despite returning to training this week, there were reports of further issues for the Portuguese icon.

At his press conference before the match, Rangnick said he was confident Ronaldo would be available.

However, his name was not included in the Red Devils’ squad.

The reason for Rashford’s absence is currently unknown.
