Liverpool have had a busy summer as they look to try to retain the Premier League title next season, but factors outside of their control may just benefit them going forward.

The Reds’ first season under Arne Slot has been nothing short of spectacular after winning their 20th league title, although it is clear that they will not rest on their laurels.

They have been busy already in the transfer market and brought in Jeremie Frimpong to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, while also being heavily linked with Florian Wirtz and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.

However, after losing such a key player like Alexander-Arnold, the Reds will be keen to keep hold of as many of their stars as possible, although they may not have as much power in stopping this from happening compared to others.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo hurting Liverpool on many occasions during his time at Manchester United and Real Madrid, he can, strangely, help them out next season, with his decision potentially having a knock-on effect to who exits Anfield this summer.

Ronaldo’s future in Saudi Arabia has been up in the air for a few months now, with his recent comments on social media suggesting that he could depart after two years in the Kingdom.

However, in a U-turn, the Saudi club are keen for him to sign a new contract and a recent report from French outlet Foot Mercato suggests that he might do just that, in a move that would hugely benefit Liverpool.

This is down to the fact that Al Nassr have made Luis Diaz one of their top targets, especially if the Portuguese international decides that his time is up and looks for a move elsewhere.

But, if the 40-year-old does sign a new deal at the club, Al Nassr may cool their interest in the Colombian and decide against signing him for a decent-sized fee given that he has two years left on his current contract.

The Middle Eastern side may still decide to try to prise Diaz with a move away from Anfield, but with their top priority being to keep the Portuguese superstar, they may just opt against a new high-profile arrival and Liverpool can keep a player who has been so vital to their recent success.

After Mohamed Salah, Diaz has been Liverpool’s next best attacker this season, with this being his highest-scoring campaign to date since joining in January 2022.

Not only has he popped up with some important goals, but his creativity and versatility in attack make him one of the first names on Slot’s team sheet, meaning that he would be a huge loss if he does indeed depart.

With Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota also linked with a move away, and perhaps even Cody Gakpo who is wanted by Bayern Munich, Liverpool could have a huge attacking overhaul this summer, with Ronaldo’s final decision potentially having a domino effect for what is to come next.
