Bruno Fernandes is ready to continue wearing the captain’s armband at Man United after turning down exits throughout the summer window.
It has already been suggested that Fernandes could leave Man United after another poor season, and with the Red Devils winning just one of their first four games of the campaign, the worst could happen.
With 99 goals and 83 assists in 294 total appearances, it is clear why he has been chosen to lead the squad onto the field, already bonding well with the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
Ruben Amorim is under pressure at Man United, having won just 18 of his first 46 games in charge since November, so keeping the Portuguese star at the club has probably been his biggest achievement so far.
There will have been a time behind the scenes when keeping hold of the 30-year-old was not a guarantee, and while the Saudi Arabian transfer window remains open, the player is unlikely to go anywhere.

According to talkSPORT (6 September), while his desire to remain in Europe has been well known, it was a conversation with his family that helped him to decide to stay with the Red Devils for one more season.

It is understood that the 30-year-old playmaker was tempted by offers from a trio of PIF-owned Saudi clubs, directly informing international teammate Cristiano Ronaldo of his decision.

He also decided that staying at Old Trafford was a better idea ahead of the 2026 World Cup year, and while Al Hilal were ready to submit an £80 million bid, it was never submitted during the summer window.
Speaking to BBC Sport after United’s Europa League defeat, Fernandes said: “I’ve always said I will be here until the club says to me that it’s time to go.
“I’m eager to do more, to be able to bring the club to the great days.
But I’ve always said it, and I keep my word in the same way.
On the day that the club thinks that I’m too much or it’s time to part ways, football is like this, you never know it.”
At 30 years of age, the Red Devils will need to start planning for life without their playmaker, but with the player showing zero signs of slowing down, that moment is unlikely to be until at least next summer.
Amorim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be left with giant shoes to fill once the midfielder departs, but that will be a problem for another transfer window following his latest decision at Old Trafford.
