The touching moment between the pair happened after Portugal's 3-2 win over Hungary in their World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night - with the return fixture set for Lisbon next month.
Szoboszlai handed Ronaldo his shirt following Portugal's triumph in World Cup qualifying, but the former Real Madrid icon had already presented his to another player.
So in response, the Portuguese icon promised his next match-worn jersey to the Reds star when the next international break comes up in October.
The pair are set to lock horns once more in just a few weeks, after Portugal secured victory courtesy of a late strike from Joao Cancelo.
He was eight years old at that time, with Ronaldo representing the opposition at the same age the Reds star is now, 24 years old.
Sixteen years later, Reds star Szoboszlai and Ronaldo were the respective captains of their country at the Puskas Arena.
Szoboszlai won the Reds the game with his sumptuous strike that bent over the wall and past David Raya into the back of the net - a feat he has achieved for his country as well.
Speaking before the game against Portugal, Szoboszlai spoke of his aspirations to become just like his idol Ronaldo.
Finally, the time has come."
His promise to hand over his match-worn jersey to the Liverpool star after the next set of international games shows Ronaldo's true colours in giving back to longtime fans of his - despite Szoboszlai playing for a former arch-rival of the ex-Manchester United star.
