Graham Potter’s plans at West Ham United have taken a further hit after one of his prominent players completed a move away.
West Ham‘s start to the new Premier League season couldn’t have gone much worse, with heavy, back-to-back defeats inflicted by Sunderland and Chelsea leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table.
Both the Black Cats and Blues tore through West Ham’s midfield at will in their respective 3-0 and 5-1 victories over the Irons, despite a stunning Lucas Paqueta strike to open the scoring against Chelsea.
That midfield now looks more threadbare than ever after the most recent transfer developments at the London Stadium, with Paqueta tipped to be the next player out the door after a loan exit was confirmed.

Potter‘s midfield stocks have taken another hit in East London despite changing Edson Alvarez‘s squad number from 19 to four, in a statement to intend that the Mexican would play a prominent role this term.
Alvarez arrived late to West Ham’s pre-season tour after his exploits with Mexico in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, but his stay with Potter’s side has been a short one after he completed a loan move to Fenerbahce.
The 27-year-old joins Jose Mourinho‘s side on a season-long deal with an option to buy, and Alvarez posted on Instagram on Sunday with a message to state that the move was his “destiny”.

Alvarez said: “I join Fenerbahce with great excitement.
The challenge is big, the fans are incredible, and I’m ready to give everything for this club.
The brave follow destiny, never run from it.”
Several West Ham players left comments to wish Alvarez well in Turkey, with Crysensio Summerville calling him “my brother”, and the exit-linked Paqueta adding: “Good luck brother”.

Football Insider Verdict
Although he was given the number four shirt ahead of the new campaign, Alvarez hadn’t featured for a single minute of West Ham’s season so far before completing his move to Fenerbahce on Saturday.
The Irons have moved quickly to replace the Mexican in a rare piece of proactive transfer business this summer, with Football Insider revealing that West Ham have a bid ready for Totteham’s Yves Bissouma.
Bissouma would add the dynamism and legs sorely lacked by Potter’s side so far, but there’s still some distance to go before West Ham fans will feel anything other than dread about the next 36 matches.
