Liverpool may have just received the most telling sign yet from Crystal Palace with regards to captain Marc Guehi's future.

Whilst keen on the central defender, the Reds are ready to play a waiting game if it means striking the most beneficial agreement possible.

Leading Palace to their first-ever major trophy - last season's FA Cup, is the fitting culmination of four years at Selhurst Park for Guehi.

As the ECHO understands, they would be happy to wait on year by which point Guehi will have turned 25 but be available for free as his Eagles contract will have expired - reports suggest he will not renew.

Alternatively, Palace, who last year rejected multiple offers from Newcastle United in the region of £60m, would be pushed into lowering their asking price to scrape a fee through a sale this summer.

Now the Londoners' latest actions have possibly hinted towards their decision.

Guehi has featured front and central in the club's promotional material for their new 2025/26 home shirt alongside teammates Jean-Philippe Mateta, Adam Wharton, Maxence Lacroix and Justin Devenny.

Putting his face to the kit launch would suggest the plan is to continue into the new season.

As a point of contrast, midfielder Eberechi Eze has not been included at all in the photoshoot at a time when he has been linked with a switch to Arsenal.

But Liverpool supporters will know first-hand this is not the be-all and end-all of signs that a player is set to stay at a club.

Casting minds back to summer 2014, there are memories of Luis Suarez posing in the new strip for that upcoming season, only for the striker to complete a club-record £75m move to Barcelona.

Intrigue over Guehi is set to continue deep into the summer - potentially even next year, by which point the Reds' patient approach would be put to the test.

The defender also played the first half of Palace's first pre-season friendly against Millwall on Saturday, being substituted at the break as Oliver Glasner rotated all XI players in his team.

Meanwhile, it has been reported Glasner is closing in on the £47m signing of Sporting CP central defender Ousmane Diomande - potentially as a replacement for Guehi.

Also tied to the situation is Palace's debacle with UEFA over whether they will be permitted entry into next season's Europa League as a prize for winning the FA Cup.

The governing body has ruled that Palace have breached multi-club ownership rules, so they have been placed into the Conference League instead, but an appeal may yet alter that outcome.

It remains to be seen what impact this has on players like Guehi and whether they could formalise a desire to leave as a result.

Liverpool face Palace on Sunday, August 10, for the first competitive match of the new season - the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.
