Marc Guehi was one of two huge stars absent from the launch of Crystal Palace's new 2025/26 third kit.

Liverpool opened talks with their Premier League rivals last week, over securing a deal within the final weeks of the summer transfer window for the England international.

Those talks were continuing as the new Premier League campaign began, the ECHO reported, as a proposed deal for Guehi is being sought separately to the £26m acquisition of 18-year-old central defender Giovanni Leoni.

There is now less than two weeks for Liverpool to complete their business.

And Palace have incentive to sell as, if they don't recoup a fee for their captain now, they face losing him for free next summer - something the Reds would happily wait for.

So, with the spotlight on Guehi, it was blatantly obvious he was missing from Palace's 2025/26 third kit launch on Tuesday afternoon.

The 25-year-old was not a part of any of the promotional material that landed on the Eagles' club website or their social media channels.

Selected to represent the new white, red and blue strip were men's players; Daichi Kamada, Jefferson Lerma and Daniel Munoz, plus women's stars Molly Sharpe and Allyson Swaby.

Also missing from the launch was forward Eberechi Eze who according, to our colleagues at football.london, is the subject of increasingly positive talks over a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.

That proposed move across London is edging closer.

Palace distancing themselves from their captain could, therefore, be taken as a hint that he might be on the move in the final weeks of the summer window.

Alternatively, it may only be so others get their chance in the spotlight, after Guehi featured front and centre of Palace's promotional material for their 2025/26 home and away kits earlier on this summer.

So for now Liverpool's next defensive transfer target remains a part of the plan at Selhurst Park.

He started in Palace's Premier League opener vs Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, which ended a 0-0 draw.

It remains to be seen if that will change, as the club's chairman Steve Parish has conceded he may have to cash-in now as opposed to lose the player for free in 2026.

"We'd have to do that, of course," he said.

"For players of that calibre to leave on a free, it's a problem for us unfortunately.

"Joachim [Andersen] went [to Fulham last summer] and we couldn't afford to lose both.

"We then had another bid [for Guehi] in January but that was a different situation.

"We'll just have to see what happens but, you know, it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind."
