Crystal Palace have been dealt a massive blow in their Europa League case after claims that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is helping UEFA.
Problems concerning the south London side’s ownership structure stemmed from John Textor’s minority stake in the club.
Textor has since sold his shares, but Palace were still demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League for breaching multi-club ownership rules.
The Eagles have submitted an appeal, as they think they have done nothing wrong, with the hearing set for 8 August.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that CAS are likely to agree with UEFA, rather than uphold Palace’s appeal.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that two recent cases that are similar to Crystal Palace’s show that CAS usually side with UEFA on these rulings.
Irish club Drogheda and Slovakian side FC DAC were both removed from the Conference League and had appeals rejected by CAS.
Wyness added that there will be different facts and issues in Palace’s case, but that a precedent has been set.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “The complication is that there have been two other decisions recently, two clubs, FC DAC and Drogheda in Ireland, where they’ve both lost their appeals at CAS about similar situations with MCOs.
“Now, there are going to be different facts and issues around both those cases, but it does sort of say that maybe CAS is helping support UEFA’s decisions.”
Liverpool have been linked with Marc Guehi (Credit: Hasan Karim Breaking Media)
Meanwhile, Liverpool are reportedly preparing to make a fresh offer to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in the final weeks of the transfer window.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that the 25-year-old remains one of the top targets at Anfield.
Arne Slot’s side are determined to strengthen their defensive options before the window closes, despite the current focus on a deal for Alexander Isak.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 28 July that Liverpool still have a “concrete” interest in Guehi and are lining up a fresh offer in the coming weeks.
