Liverpool’s pursuit of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi could gather momentum now that the Eagles have completed the blockbuster £67.5 million sale of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal.

With Palace having secured a massive financial windfall from their star winger’s departure, the pressure to cash in on Guehi – who enters the final year of his contract in 2026 – has arguably diminished.

However, this development cuts both ways for Steve Parish’s side.

While the Eze money provides breathing room, Crystal Palace now face the daunting prospect of replacing two key figures who were instrumental in their FA Cup triumph last season.

Manager Oliver Glasner has been vocal about his squad’s lack of depth, jokingly admitting he might “try his boots” at centre-back if Guehi departs in the final days of the summer transfer window.

Fabrizo Romano has reported that Crystal Palace have entered the race for French centre back Jaydee Canvot, who currently plies his trade at Toulouse in Ligue 1.

This comes after Aston Villa bid rejected last week.

The Italian has revealed that Toulouse will ask around €20m for French defender.

Canvot’s profile fits Palace’s needs perfectly: standing at 6 ft 2, he combines pace with composure – qualities that mirror Guehi’s own game and would allow for a smoother transition in a side still reeling from Eberechi Eze’s departure.

It certainly is another hint that the Eagles may feel that Guehi will depart this summer.
