Crystal Palace will struggle to keep manager Oliver Glasner following a major decision that has impacted the South London club.

Glasner is a serial winner having won the Europa League at Eintracht Frankfurt before he moved to Selhurst Park in February 2024.

The Austrian has enjoyed further success at Palace, having managed them to their first ever major trophy in the FA Cup last season when they beat Man City 1-0 at Wembley.

Crystal Palace defeated Liverpool on penalties to clinch the Community Shield, and will be competing in Europe this campaign, but Glasner may not be hanging around for long.

A decision from the Court for Arbitration for Sport [CAS] has ruled Crystal Palace will be demoted to the Europa Conference League and will not compete in the Europa League, due to multi club ownership rules.

The decision will not only impact Nottingham Forest, who will instead now play in the Europa League, but significantly dent Crystal Palace’s plans to bolster their squad.

Crystal Palace will have to change their transfer plans due to the CAS ruling and be hit with a drop in revenue which could have serious repercussions for Glasner.

The club have only signed two players in this window, and Glasner clearly feels he needs more additions to his squad with uncertainty surrounding key stars.

Having proved himself in the Premier League, finishing 12th with Palace last season, and having won two trophies at a club which had never before seen silverware, Glasner will be a man in demand.

Club’s from the Premier League and around Europe will be eyeing the Austrian up when a vacancy becomes available.

Palace will not have the level of European football required or the financial strength to be able to keep Glasner, meaning they will quite possibly lose arguably the greatest manager in their history.

The effects of this decision could hit Palace hard with not only Glasner leaving but potentially also captain Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze and striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Palace would receive substantial fees for the trio, though the impact there departures could have could hit the club hard on the pitch and if Glasner leaves a relegation battle could be on the cards.

For delivering a trophy to the club, he will always be a legend in the eyes of the fans, but he would not be willing to hang around if Palace were in a relegation trouble.

Glasner will have opportunities to leave Palace this season, and the only way the Eagles can keep him is if they keep hold of their best players and invest in the squad, something which currently looks unlikely.

If Palace harbour ambitions of replicating their success in the FA Cup and qualifying for Europe again being able to keep hold of a manager of Glasner’s pedigree is a must.
