Crystal Palace set for late-signing spree after Marc Guehi to Liverpool update

Sun 31 August 2025 20:30, UK

Crystal Palace are set for a late-window signing spree as Marc Guehi finalises a deadline-day move to Liverpool.

The Eagles had a very quiet start to the window, which took a turn for the worse when Eberechi Eze joined Arsenal for £67.5million.

Palace quickly responded by signing Yeremy Pino from Villarreal, who will act as a direct replacement for the already-departed Eze.

However, Oliver Glasner’s side are set for a busy last 24 hours of the window, as they look to bring more new faces in at Selhurst Park.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Palace can use the money from the Eze sale to make a number of signings.

This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen CEO.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that the Eagles still need incomings ahead of the deadline, especially if Marc Guehi joins Liverpool.

Palace are closing in on a deal to sign Toulouse defender Jaydee Canvot, which is likely to allow Guehi to make his switch to Anfield after Liverpool submitted a formal bid on Saturday.

Wyness added that the supporters will want to see some big moves before the transfer window closes.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Palace are one of those clubs that hasn’t really done much yet in the transfer window.

They’re another one that’s got to go again.

“A lot of clubs are going to be making some big moves, so we’ve got to watch Palace as well because they’ve got to add.

“I mean, they’ve got the money that’s come in from Eze, so that’ll be burning a hole in Steve Parish’s pocket.

The fans will want to see some strengthening on there as well.”

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are only likely to be handed a fine after fans displayed a controversial banner aimed towards Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, sources have told Football Insider.

The banner, which showed the Greek billionaire holding a gun to Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White’s head, read: “Mr Marinakis is not involved in blackmail, match-fixing, drug trafficking or corruption!”

The incident occured during Palace’s 1-1 draw with Forest at Selhurst Park on Sunday (24 August), with The FA now conducting an investigation into the matter.

Sources say Glasner’s side are only likely to receive a “small fine” and be warned about their fans’ future conduct.
