Crystal Palace have passed up the chance to sign Gabriel Silva despite being given a golden opportunity to bring in the Brazilian.
In spite of winning both the FA Cup and the Community Shield, Selhurst Park appears to be gloomier than first anticipated.
After losing an appeal following demotion to the Conference League, Oliver Glasner and key players Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze could lead a Palace exodus.

Liverpool have reopened transfer talks with Guehi, Football Insider understands, whilst Eze is of significant interest from Tottenham as they seek to fill the vacant number 10 role.
Desperately needing to strengthen the squad, it has now emerged the Eagles have turned down an opportunity to sign a talented Brazilian.
According to a report by The Standard (14 August), the south London side and Bournemouth were both “offered the chance” to sign 23-year-old Santa Clara winger Gabriel Silva.
The South American, a graduate from the Palmeiras academy, started 32 of 33 games in the Portuguese top-flight, known for his outrageous raw speed.

Yet, The Standard understands that the deal never materialised because “Palace opted against taking exploratory conversations further”.

Football Insider verdict
Whilst Palace fans have been thrilled by the arrival of two new trophies in quick succession, issues off-the-field in recruitment and court battles will have put a dampener on celebrations.
With many of their key players not committing to their long-term futures at Selhurst Park, there is a sense of uncertainty and insecurity in the air.
Adding the workload of the Conference League to the mix with an already small squad, Glasner will have his work cut out as he tries to make-do with the footballers he already has.

My worry is that the Eagles’ league form could take a major dip, similar to that of Burnley in seasons gone-by, when qualifying for Europe.
The additional fixtures are often underestimated as the squad contends with short bouts of recovery which can lead to an uptake in injuries and all-round energy depletion.
For the Austrian, managing the little players he has will be tricky and this may lead to Palace tumbling down the league this season if they do not find a way to balance their domestic and continental objectives.
