Crystal Palace may reignite their interest in Jamie Vardy and offer him a short-term contract as Oliver Glasner’s pool of available striker options gets smaller by the week.
Vardy left Leicester City at the end of last season after 13 years and 500 games played for the club, with a lasting legacy as a Premier League winner from when they shocked the world in 2016.
The top-flight legend’s future has been up in the air ever since, with a number of clubs registering their interest in his services as he seeks a new challenge.

Football Insider revealed in May that Crystal Palace had joined the race to sign Vardy alongside Wolves ahead of the summer window, with the Eagles making contact with the 38-year-old’s camp over a potential free transfer move.
He is still yet to join a new club, and with the 2025/25 Premier League campaign soon to be underway, Glasner’s side should be looking at offering him a contract due to their lack of options in attack for the next few months to come.
Palace’s summer has been dominated by off-field events, and they have recently been confirmed as demoted to the Europa Conference League by CAS, with Nottingham Forest taking their place in the Europa League.
Austrian boss Glasner recently bemoaned the Eagles’ lack of transfer activity, and he is sure to want to being in a new centre-forward as soon as possible with Eddie Nketiah likely to be out until the end of September [BBC] after suffering a hamstring injury in pre-season.

The ex-Arsenal attacker has played second-fiddle to Jean-Philippe Mateta since he moved to Selhurst Park, and the only other senior striker on the Eagles’ books right now is Odsonne Edouard.

He is not in the club’s plans for this season, however, after spending last term on loan at Leicester with Vardy, and according to Foot Mercato, Ligue 1 side Nice are advancing on a move for Edouard, and he wants to join them and make the move back to France this summer.
That leaves Mateta as Glasner’s only option up front for potentially the first six weeks of the new season, and so it seems like a no-brainer for Palace to go back in for Vardy.
He proved last campaign that he still has what it takes to perform regularly in the top-flight, even at 38-years-old, with nine goals in 35 league games, and his outstanding experience would be a massive help to the Eagles as they aim for success in Europe and on a domestic level once more.
Vardy is understandably taking his time to decide his next move after so long building a legacy at the King Power Stadium, and Palace are unlikely to have a clear path to his signature if they do reignite their interest soon.
Football Insider revealed last month that newly-promoted Championship side Birmingham City are plotting a formal move for Vardy as they aim high in the second-tier, but whether he will want to drop into a lower league is currently unclear.

Palace would surely be a more attractive option to the veteran forward than Blues, but both Celtic and Rangers are also interested in Vardy right now, and they may each potentially be able to offer Champions League league stage football soon.
Whether the Eagles do want to make a move for him remains to be seen, but if they do, then they will need to act quickly to get a deal over the line for both the start of the new campaign and to make sure they are ahead of other interested teams.
