Crystal Palace are working on a deal to sign Man City centre-back Manuel Akanji as they explore a number of options to replace Marc Guehi by Monday night’s deadline.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 30-year-old’s future at the Etihad as the race for his signature accelerates.

Tottenham, AC Milan and Galatasaray are also believed to be interested in the centre-back, making a potential deal difficult for Palace to pull off.

Football Insider revealed on 30 August that Man City will listen to offers for Akanji as they are prepared to cash in on him before the window closes.

Palace are one of a number of teams interested in the centre-back, who could be allowed to leave the Etihad if “the right offer” comes in.

This comes after Football Insider revealed Crystal Palace want to sign two defenders on deadline day, as they close in on a deal to sign Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse.

Football Insider revealed on 1 September that Guehi is expected to join Liverpool following their mega-money deal to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle.

Liverpool had an official bid of £35million for Guehi rejected by Palace on Saturday, but will make a “minor adjustment” on the add-ons to get a deal over the line.

O’Rourke explained that the Eagles are targeting a defender with Premier League experience to replace their captain, and Akanji is one of the names on their radar.

“Guardiola has made it quite clear he is looking to trim his squad,” he told Football Insider.

“So if a right offer came in for Akanji, it looks like City would be willing to cash in on him.

“For Palace, it would be a very astute signing for me if they were to get him.

“He’s Premier League proven, got great experience and could be a ready-made replacement for Guehi.

“If Akanji is allowed to leave Man City before the end of the window, there will be a lot more than just Crystal Palace interested in signing him.

“There is a lot of strong interest in him and rivals ready to compete with Palace for his signature.”

It could be a busy deadline day at Selhurst Park aside from speculation about Guehi, as Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is also being linked with a move away from Palace.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 1 September that Sheffield United want to re-sign Rak-Sakyi following his loan spell at Bramall Lane last season.

Palace are willing to let the winger leave on loan on deadline day, having previously turned down offers worth £10million from Rangers and Southampton.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 15 July that Palace were weighing up letting Rak-Sakyi go on loan as they were holding out for a permanent deal.
