Liverpool have got themselves wrapped up in a high profile transfer saga before the window has even officially opened.
The Reds have been involved in plenty of big-money wrangles in the past, with the unsuccessful attempt to sign Moises Caicedo in 2023 the most recent of these.
Now, Liverpool are looking at another £100m plus deal as they push to secure the surprise addition of Bayer Leverkusen forward Florian Wirtz.
Wirtz has long been expected to join Bayern Munich this summer as his stint with Leverkusen finally comes to an end.
But with Liverpool looking to add more creativity to the team, the Reds have thrown their hat into the ring this week.
With Manchester City also reportedly in the mix, Wirtz has a decision to make on where he wants to play his football.
And journalist Florian Plettenberg has now reported when the 22-year-old’s final call is likely to arrive.

As Rousing The Kop exclusively revealed on Friday, Liverpool are not expected to sign Wirtz this summer.
Nevertheless, the Reds are ready to be in the mix should the Germany international decide he wants to try an adventure overseas.

Taking to X on Friday evening, Plettenberg claimed that Liverpool should know one way or another by next week, as Leverkusen push Wirtz to make a ‘final decision’.
“Bayer 04 Leverkusen are currently expected to demand around €150m for Florian Wirtz from all interested clubs,” he says.
“Should FC Bayern offer €100m, Leverkusen plan to reject it immediately.”

“Leverkusen want a final decision from Wirtz next week on whether he intends to leave or stay.
“So far, Leverkusen have not received any formal written offers — neither from Bayern, Manchester City, nor Liverpool.
If he were, they would be pushing much harder to sign him rather than simply waiting in the wings.
They do need a creative player, though, and that they are looking at Wirtz at all gives an indication to the kind of profile they are after.
Rayan Cherki is on the market and is supposedly keen to join Liverpool.
In targeting Wirtz, however, Liverpool run the risk of losing out on Cherki too.
Then there’s Xavi Simons, who is available for around half the fee it would take to secure Wirtz.
Meanwhile, RTK understands Liverpool are also keeping an eye on the situations of Morgan’s Rogers and Gibbs-White in case there is an opening there.
Once, as expected, Wirtz opts for Bayern, the Reds’ next target should start to become more clear.
