Curtis Jones missed Liverpool’s Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday due to injury.

The midfielder picked up a knock during the Reds’ 1-0 Premier League win against Arsenal before the international break and was subsequently sidelined for Sunday’s 1-0 triumph over Burnley.

However, Liverpool boss Arne Slot is hopeful Jones will be back in contention for the weekend’s Merseyside derby against Everton.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash against Atletico, Slot said of Jones: “He will train with the squad tomorrow, hopefully he will be with the squad on Saturday.”

Liverpool and Everton have started the season strongly, with Slot’s side winning all four of their league matches so far, while David Moyes’ men have suffered just one defeat in the same period.

The Toffees sit sixth in the table after recording victories over Brighton and Wolves, bouncing back from an opening-day defeat to newly promoted Leeds.

Saturday’s clash with Liverpool will mark their first encounter against a fellow “big six” side this season.

A key factor in Everton’s improved form has been the arrival of Jack Grealish, on loan from Manchester City.

The forward has quickly rediscovered his best form at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, registering four assists in as many appearances.

Curtis Jones has become a key figure under Arne Slot, featuring in Liverpool’s opening three league fixtures of the 2025/26 campaign against Bournemouth, Newcastle, and Arsenal.

The 24-year-old was also heavily involved last term, making 46 appearances across all competitions for the Reds and scoring three goals.

According to the Daily Mail, Jones has stepped up his recovery from injury this week, returning to the grass and appearing in good spirits when spotted at Anfield on Wednesday night.

The England international is in line to return to the squad for Saturday’s Merseyside Derby at Anfield.

Liverpool will regroup for a recovery session at the AXA Training Centre on Thursday before holding a light training session on Friday.
