Curtis Jones has been speaking ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Everton this evening.

The Merseyside derby tonight is not just another chapter in their storied rivalry, but a crucial fixture in Liverpool’s quest for the Premier League title.

As one of English football’s most heated derbies, this encounter carries not only local bragging rights but significant implications in the title race.

Arsenal reestablished their title credentials with a resounding 5-0 win over Chelsea, with former Blues man Kai Havertz scoring a brace in what a huge loss for Mauricio Pochettino’s.

The Gunners are now three points ahead of the Reds, and will remain ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s men on goal difference even if Liverpool beat Everton tonight.

Meanwhile, Manchester City enjoy the benefit of two games in hand over Arsenal despite being four points behind.

Pep Guardiola’s well-oiled machine always seem to get stronger towards the end of seasons, with the current trend looking no different.

Liverpool, sitting tight in the title chase, understands the importance of every point at this stage of the season!

A victory over their city rivals could be pivotal in maintaining pressure on the league leaders.

Everton are currently in a difficult spot near the bottom of the table, compounded by multiple point deductions.

If not for these penalties, Sean Dyche’s side would be safely positioned in 14th place, ahead of teams such as Crystal Palace and Brentford.

The Toffees aim to disrupt Liverpool’s gameplay and possibly spoil Liverpool’s aspirations of securing the Premier League title this season.

What did Curtis Jones say about the Merseyside derby?

Curtis Jones will do his utmost to ensure that his side leave with all three points.

The 22-year-old revealed his excitement at being able to play the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park for the first time in his career:

“As a Liverpool player and a Scouser, yeah.

Of course, I’ve played in the derbies, I’ve scored as well,” Jones told liverpoolfc.com.

“But the last one that I played in was COVID times and there wasn’t any fans there and I’ve only ever played at Anfield.

I’m looking forward to it.”

The Reds got their title aspirations back on track with a good 3-1 win over Fulham on Sunday.

However, Liverpool’s No.17 has suggested that the result didn’t influence their mood to much as they remain focused on giving Jurgen Klopp the best possible send-off:

“It didn’t change the mood,” Jones said.

“I think the mood has always been good but we had a hard run, of course, everyone knows [that].

It’s a performance and a win we can build on.”

Liverpool face Everton this evening at Goodison Park, with kick-off scheduled for 8pm BST.
