'Dangerous' - PGMOL insider: Jacob Bruun Larsen faces 'trouble' with FA over social media posts

Tue 2 September 2025 19:32, UK

Jacob Bruun Larsen risks being punished by the FA after taking to social media with comments about Man United’s win over Burnley, according to Keith Hackett.

The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that the authorities will be monitoring players’ social media accounts, and the winger entered into a “dangerous area” with his comments.

Lyle Foster was denied by semi-automated technology against Man United on Saturday, 30 August, which could have had a telling impact as the Red Devils scored the winner in the seventh minute of added time.

This came after the South Africa international’s first goal at Old Trafford, and would have evened the score after an own goal from Josh Cullen and a simple stroke home from Bryan Mbeumo.

This article contains exclusive comments from ex-PGMOL chief, FIFA official and former professional referee Keith Hackett.

Jaidon Anthony did score an equaliser for the visitors in the 66th minute, five minutes after Foster’s was ruled out, but it was not enough for Scott Parker‘s side to take a point back to Turf Moor.

A controversial penalty decision at the death allowed Bruno Fernandes to score a dramatic winner.

Amad Diallo had his shirt tugged as he entered the box, throwing himself to the floor, and clearly leaving referee Samuel Barrott with no other option, but it left many fans and players frustrated and angry.

Bruun Larsen, who played 82 minutes at Old Trafford, took to social media after, writing over a screenshot of the offside decision: “Can anyone explain this for me?

Cheers, lads,” with a facepalm emoji.

In a separate post, he said: “Not to mention the pen… Looking forward to the letter on Monday,” referencing the apology that Fulham received for Joshua King’s disallowed goal against Chelsea.

Hackett reacted to the comments while speaking exclusively to Football Insider, saying, “Players have to be very careful with what they say on social media.

It’s being monitored by the football authorities.

If he gets into the bounds of questioning any form of integrity of a match official, then he’ll find himself in trouble.

“Scene-setting is what he’s doing, and that is a dangerous area for the player on social media.

We don’t want to suppress anybody’s views, but he might have got plenty of dosh.

“So be careful, because you could be handing some of that across to the authorities if you get a few words out of kilter.”
